조셉 아서(Joseph Arther)는 리얼 월드에 몇 안 되는 미국 오하이오 출신의 싱어·송 라이터이다.
초기에는 조 아서(Joe Arther)로 불리웠다.
리얼 월드 이전에도 미국에서 T-본 버넷(T-Bone Burnett)의 제작으로 EP <Vacancy>를 발매했다.
그는 리얼 월드에서 96년 스스로 제작한 EP <Cut & Blind>를 발매했다.
이 EP들은 이미 그가 범상한 뮤지션이 아닌,
자신만의 독자적 세계를 가진 훌륭한 아티스트임을 알게 해준다.
깊이 있는 보컬이 돋보이는 'Daddy's On Prozac'가 싱글로 발매되었다.
한편 그는 96년 1집 <Big City Secrets>,
2000년 더블 앨범인 2집 <Cockroach>(RW87) 앨범을 발매했다.
리얼 월드의 소유주인 피터 가브리엘이 그의 데모 테잎을 듣고
한 시간만에 그에게 전화를 해 앨범 녹음을 제안했다는 에피소드가 있다.
사색적이고 음침한 그의 음색은 레나드 코헨이나 제프 버클리와 비교되곤 한다.
90년대엔 같은 회사의 벤 하퍼와 고메즈의 오프닝 밴드로 함께 유럽투어를 다녔으며,
현재까지 6장의 정규앨범이 나와있다.
